Since the 1970s, an endless parade of government officials and candidates has campaigned on how we must act now, to get free of Middle East oil. Yet, here we are, forty years later, still tied to the oil fields of Saudi Arabia and others, and every time some angry Muslim (is there any other kind?) throws a rock, our gas prices jump. Why? We only get approximately 14% of our oil from the Mideast, anyway; the rest comes from domestic drilling, Canada and Mexico. Yet, it seems to be Arab oil...
When will enough be enough? When will someone in authority finally stand up and say “no more”? President Obama once again ignores constitutional strictures with his recent “recess appointments”, while the Senate was still in session. Bottom line, he simply said, “you’re in”, without bothering with the process of legal Senate confirmation. Where is the outrage in the House and Senate? That’s the Legislative Branch’s job. Of course,...
I don't really know what the nuclear disaster in Japan has to do with bringing us closer to global thermonuclear war, and I didn't see any specific mention of Iran. But gee...they must be happy to be using it again; that mean ol' Ronald Reagan kicked the whole thing out of vogue for a while, there, didn't he?
I recently heard another tidbit about the possibility of DC, in the wake of Marvel's successful "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" movies, and in dread of "The Avengers", maybe pulling together the threads from which to weave a cohesive plot and production of "Justice League". The Justice League consists of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Hawk Girl and J'onn J'onzz, the "Martian Manhunter, among others. Of these, only Supes, B...
I was recently in a friendly--for the most part--discussion about gay marriage. Now, I really have no valid opinion on the subject, but I will say that I don't think galaxies are going to explode, if gays and lesbians are given the right to say "I do". After all, in the words of the great country music legend/drag queen icon Dolly Parton, "They should have to suffer, right along with the rest of us." And besides, I really don't think it's my place to ju...

After all, in the words of the great Dolly Parton, "They should have to suffer, right along with the rest of us." And besides, I really don't think it's my place to judge them. What they do is between them and the Go...
The “Occupy” movement has been taking its predictable course of late, as protestors in the “Occupy Oakland” segment, among others, clash with police and vandalize storefronts; for example, Occupiers threw a chair through the front window of a Whole Foods in Oakland, California. Shooting deaths have been reported at encampments in California and Vermont. In a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, a mob of “unidentified” young-ish vandals set cars afire, an...
And thus, does the Quest continue; Hawaii’s brand-spankin’-new governor, Democrat Neil Abercrombie, pledged to bring a swift and decisive end to the stale, virtually-abandoned Obama birth certificate debate. He dredged it back up for purely political reasons, fearing the issue may somehow affect Obama’s chances in 2012, saying that it could present "political implications that we simply cannot have.” I can’t see how; after all, he was elected, without it, ...
The Democrats are whining, seemingly put out because angry people are contacting them, saying angry things about their corrupt, unconstitutional, power-grabbing healthcare takeover. Boo-hoo; they arrogantly dismissed the will of nearly 70% of the population, as measured by their own polls. Did they honestly expect there would be no unpleasant blowback from this? Now, disappointed at the subdued, relative unobtrusiveness of the Tea Partiers' protest that Sunday, they’re blatantly sme...
Will the Tiger Woods feeding frenzy be coming to an end any time soon? Okay…he’s apologized; good for him. Why do we care? For myself, I don't care so much about his personal affairs (pun intended), but I do hold some opinions about the media's strong (over)reaction to the whole sordid affair (again, pun intended). I mean, isn’t his “sex addiction” and its accompanying issues, pretty much between Woods and his wife, anyway? I was channel surfing the othe...
Below is a letter I wrote to the editor of my local paper, which ran yesterday. Mine is a very liberalism-dominated area, being a slowly dying steel town, decimated by rampant unionism and Democrat policies. I write a lot of LTEs, and must be having some kind of an effect, because I come under a lot of fire from liberal writers, who often get nasty with me. Kinda proud of that fact, though. There are often letters written in like this one, naming--often attacking--me specifica...
My wife bought a bunch of that snacky, "gifty" stuff you generally buy in the baskets and tins; cheese, cracker spreads, that sort of thing, but this stuff was just individually priced, and loose in a bin; from broken cases and such, I'd assume. She'd intended to assemble all this into baskets of her own making and design, which she does very well. One thing she bought was a goodly-sized Hillshire Farms "Summer Sausage", hence the title; well, I managed to finagl...
A co-worker today was telling everyone to send non-perishable food items and hygiene products to the Salvation Army, and they'll get them to Haiti, for the relief effort. It's truly terrible, what has happened there; it's always terrible, when disaster strikes anywhere, but especially a Third World country , which can't fend for itself, anyway. This situation brought to mind a blog article I wrote years ago, about Africa, an entire continent of "Haitis", which is unendingly m...
Know what's the worst part about being a diabetic? Nothing that's good is good for you. Now, I know that that's a general rule, all in all, but it takes on new meaning, when it involves diabetes. Nothing I really love to eat, I can eat. What doesn't have sugar, has carbs, which turn into sugars, once my body gets done with them. I even have to watch out for some vegetables, and all fruits. I love fried foods; carbs. Pasta; carbs. Pizza; carbs. Chocolate; sugar, carbs. Cookies; sugar, carbs....
As I write this, there's about 8 inches of snow on the ground, today's high was 25 degrees, and a big snowstorm is expected this weekend, beginning tomorrow night. I'm just sayin'. There are five “O’s” in liberalism: (Willfully) Oblivious, (Deliberately) Obtuse, (Hysterical) Overreaction, (Ignoring the) Obvious, and (Unreasoning) Outrage. One of the greatest examples of this is the recent revelation of the hacking of e-mails, between US and British sc...
