This was written by me in reply to a letter in the 9/28 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. To the editor: This is to David K. Schoyer, whose daughter attended the anti-Ameri-whoop!---sorry! I should say anti-WAR rally---at a military recruitment office in Oakland, PA on 8/20. He said she reported that, prior to the "actual confrontation" (which, the more I hear about it, sounds to me like it just may have been instigated by the "peace" demonstrators), a police officer asked them ...

If that brings down a nation with it, that's on them. But, they need to be held accountable. ---dabe Uhhh...don't forget, dabe. It's your country, too. The above quote and reply pairing came from a post I made over on Modman's thread "The Left just does not get it." I've heard this kind of quote quite a few times from people on the Left, and I really have to wonder if they realize what they're saying. "If it brings down a nation, that'll be on them." No, it'll be on all of us, i...

From what I was able to gather (my wife turned the TV on in the middle of the story) from a report on the "Today" Show, there is an island of the coast of Galveston where quite a few of the poorer residents are having to sit out the storm. Seems they have little money to get away, or no vehicles. Sound familiar? The people interviewed there were white, though. I wonder...will this cause the same great wailing and gnashing of teeth and chest-thumping that the poor blacks in New Orleans did? ...

I was readin in "The Nation" last night that the Blair government is thinking of scrapping he national "Holocaust Memorial Day" because offended Muslims feel excluded. It seems that they feel as if their history and its travails are not as strongly appreciated as those of the Jews, and this causes them emotional distress. So, the British government is thinking of changing the Holocaust Memorial Day to a more generic and simple "Genocide Remembrance Day". This because, of course, in a social...

I see nothing wrong with Believers, working in and for a government based on free choice, invoking the aid of a deity in day-to-day dealings. What's so wrong with asking Divine guidance for help in our affairs of state? Some of you are so afaid of us becoming theocracy; that's crap and you know it. This nation existed for 186 years before the church-state debate really got going in the early 1960s. In fact, we resisted putting a Catholic in the Oval Office, because Papal influence was so...

And thus, does the Quest continue; Hawaii’s brand-spankin’-new governor, Democrat Neil Abercrombie, pledged to bring a swift and decisive end to the stale, virtually-abandoned Obama birth certificate debate. He dredged it back up for purely political reasons, fearing the issue may somehow affect Obama’s chances in 2012, saying that it could present "political implications that we simply cannot have.” I can’t see how; after all, he was elected, without it, ...

With the new media furor over the Swine Flu pandemic beginning its first stirrings, Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services Czar (heh-heh), says that, if we must, we should sneeze or cough into the crooks of our arms. Eeew; now, I remember, when I was a kid, my mom used to yell at me for doing that; and for wiping snot on my sleeve, too, which isn't really all that much different, now is it? How about this: how about we all get radical, and start carrying hank...

I recently found myself in a rather odd situation; that is, actually agreeing with a Democratic Senator. That’s right…..and it felt strange. My world was upside down; I felt as if I was going a little crazy. But no..... I actually agreed with Sen. Robert Byrd, when he said that Obama appointing “czars” of health reform, urban affairs policy, and energy and climate change would amount to a “power grab” by the Executive Branch. Byrd said that such positions...

As a kind of corollary to my last post, Check this out: http://news.aol.com/article/people-igno ... eet/325776 Wow...and here, all this time, I thought that Obama's ascension to the Throne and its accompanying do-gooder vibe was supposed to suddenly make us all care about each other, and help each other, and want to stand around holding hands, singing "Kum ba Yah"...and here, we have this. What went wrong? And gosh! It happened in DC! Right from where the awesome power of O...

Well, okay....maybe that subtitle is somewhat premature. Hamas' leadership has declared itself the victor in the recent clash, pointing out that, despite Israel's more successful attacks and the resulting body count, they failed to acheive their goals. They said that historians for generations to come will long be writing of this great victory. Thing is, the same kinds of people who laughed when Nixon declared victory in Vietnam will undoubtedly nod their heads in agreement with this one. ...

There comes a moment in everyone’s life, often several moments, really, when he or she finally knows, with perfect clarity, where they stand or what they believe in. I guess I was always kind of conservative….I’ve often mentioned how I voted for and supported Reagan even before I was old enough to vote. In 1980, Ohio County Schools held a mock election in grades 7-12 to show the kids how the system works. I voted for Reagan. In 1984, I wore a big Reagan-Bush pin, there on the pocket of ...

Six million Jews and unknown numbers of others died in the Nazi Holocaust. I believe it; I know it's a fact. I know this because I've seen overwhelming and satisfactory evidence, and heard the stories from my great-uncle Arthur, whose division, the Fighting 42nd, liberated a Death Camp. Iran, purposely taking another giant step away from the sanity and order of the rest of modern civilization, sponsored a contest to see who could come up with the best Holocaust cartoon. It was won by a moro...

I work two jobs; 3 evenings a week, I work 5 hours at a Dollar General. On the counter beside the registers are boxes of those "ribbon" magnets..... red, white and blue, star-bedecked "God Bless America", "Pray for our troops", etc. Also in the box, in the interest of fairness perhaps, are ones (mainly) for those who don't support the current trend toward patriotic militarism These are plain, bland, baby-blue magnets which read "Bring our troops home safely". Nothing at all wrong with that ...

Caution: Broad statements and vast generalizations ahead! Good: The Rainbow flag, Iraqi flag, USSR flag Bad: (Read: tacky) The American flag (and, really, any symbols of support for the nation and/or its present leadership or policies). Good: Marx and Lenin, Mao and Castro (after all, they supported or fought in the Worldwide Socialist Revolution against the evils of Capitalism and the Imperialist Western Democracies) Bad: Washington and Jefferson, Hamilton and Adams ...

Actor Richard Belzer, Det. John Munch of NBC's "Law and Order--SVU" seems to know more about the war in Iraq than the young men fighting it. See the link for details. Belzer says American troops who say they "support the mission" are simply "uneducated and uninformed" 19- and 20-year olds "who are only in the service because they couldn't find a job". He said he's so much better informed because he has time to read 20 newspaper a day. Good for him; "money for nuthin' an' yer chicks fer free...
