6'3", 300 Linemen intimidated into worship of deity

"Quinn and Rose in the Morning", a Pittsburgh-based rightwing talk radio show, played a shameful recording made in the Steeler's locker room in Denver after that game, the AFC Championship. The sound came from a video of the event, which was described by Rose, who found it "sweet and refreshing". As if!

The general rowdiness and joyful laughter of the victorious Steelers was quickly and viciously stifled as Head Coach Bill "The Chin Man" Cowher came in and yelled,
"Okay, over here! Hats off!"
"Hats off!" was echoed through the room by the obviously intimidated players.
They swiftly gathered, with clearly fake willingness, to bend their knees and bow their heads at Cowher's feet.
Enforced quiet quickly descended, as Cowher bowed his head and led the team in a prayer of thanksgiving for the abilities, teamwork and continued health of the players, which had led to their victory.

All this was done, shamefully, horribly, in the Name of "Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ".

The players, clearly unsure of how to react, responded "Amen", and rose, yelling cheerfully. This forced cheerfulness was obviously a visceral response to their feelings of intimidation, and because their torment had been brief.
Troy Polamalu even crossed himself! How sad is that? That he should feel so much fear that he should have to make such a show to avoid trouble with his intolerant, self-righteous coach?

How terrible for the players, to be so bullied into worship by their Christian coach.

Someone call the ACLU! Save these men from such blatant religious imposition.

I'd be more impressed if our professional athletes would live a "Godly" life (wholesome, law-abiding).

Actually, it's been noted that, concerning those very things, the Steelers as a team rank among the best in the NFL.
You never hear anything bad about them, as opposed to players from other teams. They've been called a "whole team of role models". That says a lot.

I don't think anyone who reads lips well would be convinced about Cowher being very devout. He curses like a sailor. I can't even remember the number of times I've seen him spout off an F-this or a M-Fer.

On a serious note...I doubt God pays much attention to football, prayers or otherwise.

i did. they said it didn't appear as if prayer was gonna affect the spread cuz pittsburg is still down by at least 3.5 to 4 pts nor was it a problem cuz the steelers aren't directly funded with tax money.

so then i called pat robertson. he said if pittsburg loses its cuz the state of pennsylvania has turned away from the path of righteousness after being influenced by a horrible conspiracy organized by satan and gay marriage proponents to convince pa republicans that rick santorum is a rino.

Though I would agree with you in spirit, I would have to add to this that, though we do try, none of us believers is perfect. We try and fail. That's where Jesus' sacrifice comes in.
Just because one uses bad language does not reduce one's level of faith, or the desire to humble oneself before God. You ought to try it sometime!

He doesn't...that's why Cowher thanked Him for the abilities, the talents, of the players, and for keeping them healthy. God doesn't care about stuff like games. or even wars, for that matter. That's our thing.
That's why, for example, my coach in High School never prayed for a victory, only asking that He would protect us and help us to do our best.

kingbee, you're a cynical jerk. You ought to try it sometime, too. Besides, since when is a private institution immune from ACLU meddling and harrassment? Ask the Boy Scouts.

"One" major problem here.... They didn't lose. THEY WON!!!

Just one?  They were also favored by 3.5 to 4 points, not underdogs!
