an indicator of chances for peace in the Mideast
Someone may already have mentioned this somewhere on here, but I heard on the news that the Isreali navy offered to assist the Egytptians with searh and rescue operations in the Red Sea.
Given that perhaps 1400 or more people were dead or dying, one would think that any offered help would be snagged up in a heartbeat. Not so.
The Isreali offer was coldly rebuffed by the Egytians. At this time, I've heard no actual, stated reasons for the rebuff, but I think we all know why.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that anything that makes Isreal look good would be considered a bad thing in Egypt, and throughout the Mideast, no matter what the circumstances.
I could be wrong, but as of now, I've heard nothing of offers of assistance from Egypt's Islamic "allies".
It's been obvious for many, many years that Isreal is the most amenable to making changes leading to peace in that region.
This sad, pathetic situation is just another indication of Islam's vindictive, prideful traditions, and Isreal's willingness to live and let live.
There's an old saying Egypt should reacquaint itself with:
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
When Death and time are your enemies, as was the case here, any friend or foe who offers to help should be welcomed with open arms.
Perhaps they should take another look at this old saying, too:
"Pride goeth before the fall."
All Islam needs to reaquaint itself with that one.
