Does anyone really care that Tom Cruise is head-over tincups in love? That he jumped up and down on Oprah's couch and made an ass of himself in the process? I mean, I'm all for love and happiness for all, but come on! The celebrity-worshipping media is making such a big deal out of this, just like they did the apparent non-story of Brad and Angelina (which, if you'll noticed, has cooled out somewhat since the opening of their flick....hmmm...)
Every time two celebs get together now, it seems, we have to be focused entirely on every minute detail of their "relationship", and I'm tired of it.
Do we really think that Tom and Katie are going to live happily ever after till death do they part? No...sorry for my cynicism, but the massive egos and lack of personal depth of movie stars and other celebrities too often lead them to mistake infatuation for abiding love, which is what causes them to marry two minutes after meeting, and then getting divorced a week later when the feeling fades. This is a lesson none of them ever seems to learn. How about dating for a while, guys? Give it a couple years to marinate and see what happens before you sprint down the aisle.
How many Hollywood romances really stand for more than a few years? Right off the top of my head, I can only think a a handful, and they're all from the "Golden Age". "Tracy and Hepburn (who, by the by, were never really married)...Bogie and Bacall....Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward....there may be others, but right now I can't come up with any.
If Tom and Katie get married and make it, great...but when his "Black Sabbath" and "Eagles" posters come down and her Brtiney Spears and Christina Aguliera posters go up, I bet there'll be a strain.
