If you're paid, are you being exploited?
(This article comes out of a conversation I had at work the other night. Forgive me if it rambles. It's not all that well thought-out, really, I admit)
The position of the feminist community and the anti-porn groups has always been that porn is not only degrading to women, it exploits them, as well.
Though I hesitate to use porn as an example of women's place in the modern working-world, I must say that the women who act in porn movies are well compensated for their "efforts". That is not exploitation.
Besides, you can't tell me that women don't watch porn, too. I know many of them that do, and they don't do it for the housekeeping tips. They watch it because they like to watch people having sex, and they don't feel degraded.
I love how anti-porn feminists (is there any other kind?) cry about how women are "exploited" in the porn industry, because they have physical attributes that are attractive in that industry....the men in the flicks aren't "exploited", too, then? Would they be in the films if they weren't blessed with organs the thickness of doorknobs and the length of kielbasas? I don't think so....and that's another reason women watch porn.
The women who act in porn movies are expressing their liberation, are they not? Their right to do and act as they please. They choose to act in pornographic films, and are well-paid. More power to them, these pioneers of womanhood.
