You know what has been on my mind lately? Saddam was in power in Iraq for what? 30-some years?
In that time, he tortured and murdered innocent people in droves, and lived like a czar in palaces furnished and decorated in obscene luxury and opulence while many of his people scratched and starved. He hoarded awesome sums of money, much of which he walled up in his palaces, and he and his family lived in hedonistic decadence to rival Caligula.
In all this time, did the insurgents come to the aid of the Iraqi people? To save them from this monster which was, after all, installed by the US?
No, they didn't. They let him work his psychotic evil on that nation for decades, only rising to resistance, in his defense, when we finally invaded and kicked him out. They now wage their war to keep us from giving the Iraqis the benefits of democracy and self-rule.
How terrible of us to foist these evils on them when Saddam offered, unopposed by any terrorist "insurgents" of course, another, so much better way. Yeah, mass murder and tyranny is definately more acceptable that democracy.
Where were they when Saddam, that tool of the Western Democracies, was filling up mass graves with thousands of his own people? What makes Saddam's reign of terror so much more acceptable than our offer of self-direction?
Where were they then?
