A new Superman movie will be released in 2006. The primary roles and the actors filling those roles are as follows:
Lex Luthor: Kevin Spacey
Lois Lane: Kate Bosworth
Superman/ Clark Kent: Brad Rue (?) The actor playing Superman is an unknown soap opera actor who I've never heard of. I'm actually glad to hear this, as it's fitting. This was the route they took when they cast Christopher Reeve in the 1978 movie version. For those of my generation and later, Reeve WAS Superman.
I can see Kevin Spacey as Luthor; he looks like the Luthor to me. Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? Hmm....not too clear on that one. Have to see.
I hope they don't screw too much with the details. A few years back, they were going to make a Superman movie with Nicholas Cage in the title role (WHAT?!). The plan was to update the famous Superman costume into some kind of body armor minus the red cape and underpants things. This idea, thankfully, went down in flames. "You don't tug on Superman's cape."
I heard some time ago that Anthony Hopkins had been signed to play Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian father. This would be cool. Hopkins is one of my favorite actors, and I can see him in the role made famous by Brando.
Movies such as "Batman" (and sequels), "Spiderman" (and sequel) "The X-Men" (and sequel), "Daredevil", "The Punisher" and "The Hulk" have stayed at least within nodding distance of the comics. The '78 version of Superman was excellent. I hope that the present trend of not screwing around too much with the characters and their backstories and origins continues at least that long.
