A place for me to pour out my rants without clogging the inboxes of my friends and family. Also a place to give info on myself and Mary, our family news and events.

Last summer, the liberal Left seized on a movie entitled "The Day After Tomorrow"(which always sounded like a James Bond title to me), in which the effects of global warming caused rampant destruction all over the world. They saw this, it would seem to me, as this generation's "1984" as a story predicting terrible things in the future if events continue unaltered.

Friends, I'm here to tell you: Global Warming is a fraud, being perpetrated on us by elements of the Left who would love to see us go back to the old, old days, when factories did not pollute the air and cars didn't clog the highways, use up our precious fossil fuels (which, FYI, were supposed to be completely depleted by now,) and.....pollute the air. Of course, this does not keep these enviro-libs from driving their own cars, big honkin' SUVs and limos.

Why don't I believe in Global Warming? Because I'm in my late 30s, and that makes me old enough to remember the early 1970s, when the big alarm bells coming from the Left were sounding off about Global Cooling. That's right, Mr., Mrs. and Ms. America.....they were saying that, within 20 years, the earth would be up to 15-20 degrees cooler.
There would be massive fish kills in the oceans as the waters cooled and hundreds or even thousands of species would go extinct. Their carcasses would wash up on the beaches and cause beachfront property values to plummet, because of the smell. Also, no one would want to go to the beach, when the air and water were so much cooler. Ice bergs, it was said, would be floating far into the Southern Pacific and warmer climes. Farms would fail and worldwide famine would become an everyday reality as it became harder and harder to produce decent crops. Disaster, doom and gloom.

Also, at the same time, they were predicting the poisoning of our freshwater streams, lakes and rivers by runoff and waste from heavy industry. It was too late, they said; there was nothing we could do....in 20 years, there would be no more fresh water.
All the fish in those streams, lakes and rivers would die, the waters boiling with pollutants. Billions of dollars would have to be put into filtration systems so city water departments could make the vile stuff drinkable.

Well, friends, all of this was supposed to happen "20 years from now" at the outside (in fact, the whole thing about the boiling rivers was supposed to happen by 1980)....which makes it about 12-14 years late.
I, for one, enjoy freshwater fishing and going to the beach to swim in the warm water, though I often can't afford a beachfront hotel room. Much too expensive.

See, when the cooling thing failed to emerge and was proven wrong by the simple means of the passage of time, the environmentalist Left needed something else about which to spread fear and concern, which is what they do best. It's how they get attention.
So, they seized on the obscure notion of Global Warming and made that their new crusade.
I suppose it does make a certain amount of sense.....after all, if it's not cooling off, couldn't things be heating up?

I love the fact that Al Gore, that great doomsayer and prophet of Global Warming and now pariah of the Democratic party, was in NYC last winter, speaking on Global Warming, just when NYC was experiencing one of its coldest recorded days and had about two feet of snow on the ground. Great timing, Al, great timing.

Don't worry about Global Warming, friends....even though they've changed their predicted time of world disaster to some vague time within 50 years or so instead of 20 (that way, those who made the predictions will probably be dead and wouldn't have to suffer the indignity and embarassment of having been so wrong), the world will still be here then as it is now.
I feel confident in saying this because I know their environmentalist pot-banging, whistle-blowing and breast-thumping is much ado about nothing; they were wrong before, though they failed to admit it. Thanks to their track record, we have no reason to believe them now.
