Have I missed it? Has it happened yet? The first serious JU liberal/atheist Christmas counteroffensive?
This’ll be my third Christmas on JU, and I noticed that, every year, at the first hint of a serious Christmas article, the non-believers have to jump it feet first to refute whatever it may say. They have slam down hard and fast, lest their tender sensibilities be offended by our seasonal religious nonsense and claptrap.
They bring with them their solid, newly-discovered, incontrovertible evidence that Christmas is a fraud…….things like:
1. The Shepherds were out in the fields…..well…..this event only happens in the Spring, and this is December! Winter! Therefore, it could NOT have happened the way we celebrate it. The whole season and its celebration is obviously fraudulent, and just plain wrong.
2. The angels appeared to the shepherds only….that was stupid; why didn’t they fly over Bethlehem, or even Rome or Jerusalem, where people could see them? Makes no sense. Obviously fraudulent…..and just plain wrong.
3. Candles….a pagan symbol, adopted by Christians. The whole season is a fraud! And just plain wrong.
4. The greenery we use to decorate; wreaths, pine boughs, trees, holly, mistletoe…..more pagan traditions, adopted by Christians. Hypocritical….Christmas is obviously fraudulent, and just plain wrong.
5. St. Nicholas was French…no, he was Scandinavian….no, he was from Turkey….no…..he was Rodney Dangerfield in a red suit.
6. "Merry Christmas" is offensive....not everyone celebrates the supposed "Birth" of "Christ". Obviously a fraud....just plain wrong.
Sooo......Happy frickin’ Winter, folks.
