Actor denigrates American troops as "uneducated and uninformed
Published on March 23, 2006 By Rightwinger In Politics
Actor Richard Belzer, Det. John Munch of NBC's "Law and Order--SVU" seems to know more about the war in Iraq than the young men fighting it. See the link for details.

Belzer says American troops who say they "support the mission" are simply "uneducated and uninformed" 19- and 20-year olds "who are only in the service because they couldn't find a job". He said he's so much better informed because he has time to read 20 newspaper a day. Good for him; "money for nuthin' an' yer chicks fer free". Probably starts with the New York Times, I bet.

What a putz...I always liked "SVU", too, but now that I hear this, I just might stop tuning it in.

This is actually funnier than Richard Belzer's stand up act ever was...
on Mar 23, 2006
Yeah...only a putz would say something like;

Belzer: "Ok. No one is questioning the nobility and the honor that these men and women are serving and what they're doing. No one questions that. Now they're targets and they're not going... and their just protecting each other and they're in the middle of a civil war. So it's really not fair to have these people, who volunteered their lives to protect our nation under false pretenses, to now be targets... "

I'm not defending Belzer, he got heated up and put his foot in his mouth. However, there was more to it than what's being reported here and elsewhere.

I'm not surprised that you're defending him; one moonbat loony patting another on the back. Do you think he really meant those words, though? I personally have to kind of doubt it. "Oh, they're just stupid kids who don't know any better; they need to listen to me! I'm not in Iraq or Afghanistan, seeing with my own two eyes what's happening. I'm here in Cali, sitting on my ass only reading what my favorite biased media outlet force-feeds me". He IS a putz.
His kind of America-haters are all over Hollywood; you can see it in the way not one person used up any of their breath in even one word honoring American troops during the entire friggin' Oscar broadcast.

I guess you don't read so well, eh?

I'm not defending Belzer, he got heated up and put his foot in his mouth. However, there was more to it than what's being reported here and elsewhere.

Perhaps if you'd actually served in the military, especially overseas, you'd know that soldiers don't always get the whole picture of what's going on all the time.

Do you think he really meant those words, though? I personally have to kind of doubt it.

I love how you have no trouble believing the sincerity of the one negative thing he said, but not any of the positive.

You're acting just like the media that love to blast. You pick and choose what what to report (the negative), and ignore anything positive.

Just an FYI....next time ask before you bother to speak! Right winger HAS served! Have you?

Also an FYI....NOTHING truly positive has "ever" come out of his mouth. The recent spiel is just one of many.

Those serving volunteered. They were not drafted. The army isn't there just for practice. They are there to fight when and where our country needs them.

When my husband joined the Navy, it wasn't because he was uninformed and uneducated. It was because he wanted to get educated. He wanted to support his family and yes he wanted to serve his country.

I understand this, but Belzer (who, I might add, is not exactly serving anything or anywhere himself, if you've noticed), sitting in his comfy chair watching CCCPNN ("CCCP" is Syrillic for "USSR", for any who might not know that) and absorbing the dross from the Leftie media, knows more than they do? How could he? How can you say that?

How much was positive? I must have missed massive chunks of it, the way you're propping him up.
I have problems believing him because he's a Hollywood moonbat and, like all moonbats, he likely hates this country and everything it stands for. Except, of course, for the right to free speech.
That he clearly LOVES; mainly so he can bore us to sleep with his "comedy" act, I expect.

At least you admit that about the media; that's a start down the right ('Right'?) road.
But as for me acting like them, not at all....I posted the link to whole article that I found, and just as I found it.
If you want to fish around until you find some site that has a more positive spin on this story (if that's possible...even fellow Moonbat Maher was getting irked with him), go ahead, then post the link and I'll read it.
Unlike your biased media, I'll take both sides of the story, even the side I don't like.

Thanks for the props, but though I DID enlist, and took Basic at Ft. Jackson, I recieved a medical discharge for a seizure I had, and was unable to return. So, though I tried to serve, I sadly wasn't able.

Very true....thanks for this.

Good for him; sounds like a good guy.

Next time ask yourself jackass. I knew about RW's enlistment and discharge a while ago. And yes, if you've paid attention around here at all, you'd know that I did serve in the Army. Active duty for 4 years. Perhaps you should be the one asking before you speak?

I can say that because I've been in that position. I served in Panama in Operation Just Cause, In Kuwait/Saudi in Desert Storm, and I also served in Korea. News of what is going on related to missions, politics, etc. is hard to come by when you are deployed, especially in a conflict area.

How much was positive? I must have missed massive chunks of it, the way you're propping him up.

I quoted the part of the positive. There was just as much positive as there was negative. There were only maybe 2 negative sentences that he spoke.

I'm not interested in any site's positive spin, watched the clip and read the transcript. That's what I based my comments on.

That's why I stand up for and defend my country here!

As I said before, I'm sure the soldiers who are serving in Iraq are very grateful to have your help "defending the country" by blogging.

My experience in the service was that my buddies were apolitical, not stupid, though surely limited in education. But then that was another era--I suppose the greatest generation was not so great after all.

As far as "I'm" concerned, you did serve. What happened was not your fault. You went of your own accord and tried to put in your time.
And before anyone says something stupid....YES, I have served! 6 years USN. "I" voulunteered and I am "not" some ignorant idiot like some around here like to try to make military volunteers out to be.

Do you "LIKE" showing your stupidity? You made a declarative sentence

Perhaps if you'd actually served in the military, especially overseas, you'd know that soldiers don't always get the whole picture of what's going on all the time.

Where as "I" asked a question:

Have you?

As a side note, first off try reading. Secondly, knock of the name calling! You "really" do not want to get me started! You keep "assuming" hostility where none is intended or shown.
on Mar 25, 2006
A few things worth noting:

As evidenced by this article and its replies opinions have flip-flopped.

Before: Davad felt that we should listen to service members' thoughts about what should be done in Iraq. The "righties" generally felt that the poll featured in the article was skewed and further that service members lack the information to make informed recommendations.

Now: Davad feels that service members lack the information to make informed recommendations, and the "righties" feel that we should listen to our service member's thoughts because they DO have the information needed to make informed recommendations.

PS - As much as I like Rightwinger, I have to say that Basic Training is not "military service". It is military. It's not really service, though. It's the precursor to service. So, while I definitely admire his patriotic aims and his willingness to "put his money where his mouth is", I do not believe he has "served" in the military.

Big difference between a battle-hardened Soldier and someone who was rejected prior to completion of Basic Training in South Carolina. No offense, RW, although I have a feeling you probably completely understand what I'm saying here.

Who "around here" is saying that military volunteers are "ignorant idiots"?

Do you "LIKE" showing your stupidity? You made a declarative sentence

What sentence are talking about? Your issues with punctuation always make it hard to follow what you're saying.

How exactly did I show my ignorance again? By saying he hadn't served?

As a side note, first off try reading. Secondly, knock of the name calling! You "really" do not want to get me started! You keep "assuming" hostility where none is intended or shown.

Try reading what?

Does it truly bother you being called a jackass? It seems to me as if you enjoy having a reputation of being a jackass.

Dare I ask what happens when you "get started"?

Very good observation Tex.

Only because "YOU" make it difficult! I quoted your sentence, "if" you were reading! Try again!

How about I keep calling you a "jerk-off"? Would you like that? Somehow I doubt it.

Dare I ask what happens when you "get started"?

Just ask around.
