A place for me to pour out my rants without clogging the inboxes of my friends and family. Also a place to give info on myself and Mary, our family news and events.
Wish me luck; fervent prayers welcome.....

Maybe a month ago now, I posted an article asking for opinions on my writing abilty.
It was titled "Can I write"; a post in which I requested JUer opinions on my abilities, and indicated my desire to, possibly, begin work on a novel.
The article recieved little traffic, save comments from Little Whip and Dr. Guy.
Both of them seemingly found at least minimal favor with my skills, and since no one else showed up to shoot me down, I have decided to proceed.

It's a sci-fi story I have been working on for about three years or so, which I have tentatively titled "Mindlight".

I started today, working for a couple of hours on the opening, which always seems to give me the most trouble. Once you find a decent and logical way to begin, I find, the rest pretty much comes by itself. So far, so good.

So, I have started down the path. Or maybe the rabbit hole. We'll see.

I'm not typically a fan of sci-fi lit, but if you get that bad boy written up and published, I'll be one of the first to buy it.

Good luck.

Oh yeah I love Sci Fi!

Will you be posting a little taste of it, or the whole shebang?

Really though, it's about YOU being creative. Does it matter to you whether the story gets published and sold, or is it something you want to do for you?

Good luck! I have started and abandoned at least a half dozen novels over the past 10 years for various reasons. Mostly because I just couldn't quite clearly formulate in my own mind the message I wanted to get across.

I wish you the best and hope you'll let us know when it's published. I'll order a copy (hopefully autographed, of course )

+LOL+ Thanks....I'll hold you to that.

I've been a sci-fi fan for most of my life; ever since I was a kid and discovered reruns of "Star Trek" and "The Twilight Zone". Then, of course, "Star Wars" came along and opened floodgates for me. I was in love.
Whether or not I'll post any is open for consideration. But, 'considering' the positive reaction I'm getting here, I just may!

True.

Does it matter to you whether the story gets published and sold, or is it something you want to do for you?

Stephen King once said something to the effect that he writes stories he'd enjoy. The fact that others enjoy them, too (and enough to pay for them, at that), is just gravy. That's kind of how I look at it, I guess. I like what I have in mind, sta least so far. Is it important to me to get it published? Well....yes. I would like that.
I'd like to see it published and out there, being enjoyed by and entertaining the masses and, in turn, making me some money. I would be a nice validation to me.
Whether or not that will happen is another matter altogether, though. It might not be good enough for publication, or it may get overlooked even if it is published. I'm not a Clarke, Ellison or Asimov. I'm just little Rightwinger from PA.

Me, too. +LOL+ But never with this firm an idea, I have to say. I've been building this one in my mind for about three years. I've sat myself down before and tried to start it, but just wasn't happy with what I had.
It ain't easy.

Mostly because I just couldn't quite clearly formulate in my own mind the message I wanted to get across.

I know what you mean; very well.
Not everything has to be "message"-oriented, though. Just write a story. If there's a message to be put through, it'll probably work its way in there somewhere.

I wish you the best and hope you'll let us know when it's published. I'll order a copy (hopefully autographed, of course

Thanks for the good wishes---from everyone. I hope I won't let you (or me) down. I'd be happy to autograph it for you. If only I knew who you were.+LOL+

I am re-reading the Dune Series now.  The first was excellent, but I forgot how much the second really sucked.  I am on the third.

Since I cannot get into the forums, I miss most of your articles.  Popping in on one of mine to post a link is not only welcome, but requested!  I just found this one.  And for me, I say - Go For It!

maybe we can have a competition between you and Tova7.  She is into Fantasy, and on Chapter 18 of her Cade series!  Very good so far!

Here's the link to some of my stories that got published online:

www.homepageofthedead.com

Just click on the "fiction" tab at the top.
Next page, scroll down and click "Enter the main fiction section". Then just do what it tells you. The first story you'll come to, #14 last I checked, is called "Unsual Punishment", and will have links to the others. It's a short story and unrelated to the others.
If you read them, let me know what you thought. It's an homage site, dedicated to George Romero's "Living Dead" films, so most of the stories there are based in the zombie realm. Very derivative, but that's the nature of the game.

You can rate the stories on the site, and send comments to me from there, too, that come to my e-mail addy. Please do, and let me know it's you when you send it.

That goes for everyone!

Well, what's up, Doc? (Sorry, couldn't help it) You in Solitary or something? What'd you do to get sent to The Hole? Slap the warden or somethin'?

And for me, I say - Go For It!

Thanks...I'm a-tryin'!

Hm....Where would I find it? Bookstore or website?

Truer words never spoken. What better critic to please than your worst critic?
Best of luck to you. If I had five minutes to sit down and do something creative... well, I'd compose music. But if I were you, then yeah! I'd write.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Well, find those five mins, man!
