World press’ reaction a new wrinkle
Published on February 7, 2006 By Rightwinger In Politics
The world media has spent decades, and untold gallons of ink, finding ways to rationalize the poor behavior and outright barbarism of Islam. Then, along came the outburst over the Danish cartoons.
Funny how the press, which usually responds to Islamic unrest with kid gloves, using vast understanding and aching compassion, responded to this one.

The Muslims take umbridge, really, at the freedom of the press---which is what allowed the cartoons to be run in the first place---and respond in their usual way, with angry, violent riots. Suddenly, lo and behold, Islam is a threat.
Like the rest of us didn't know that already, and for decades, at that.
"Well," the European newspapers said, "we can’t have anyone telling us what we can and can’t print, so heck, we’ll ALL run the ‘toons, as a show of support! Good for us!"

Now, they can unite for this, to show support for another paper that’s being bullied, but they can’t seem to get together to condemn fifty years of Muslim violence and intolerance against Jews and other faiths. No they can't.
Instead, over the years, they’ve gone to heroic efforts for the Muslims when it comes to, in the words of D.P. Moynihan, "defining deviancy down".
They’ve managed to turn sociopathic terrorists into "freedom fighters". They’ve skillfully sculpted violent, destructive, rampaging mobs into "militant protestors", and murderous suicide bombers into noble and loyal "martyrs".

But now, see, the Press has gone too far; they’ve done something that angered their beloved pets. They insulted the Prophet, and the pets have turned on them.
Forget about years of sick and blasphemous cartoons in Arab papers that featured sickening caricatures of Jews, and images of Jesus and Buddha; that’s okay. Just don’t show or, especially not, poke fun, at Mohammad….they’ll burn your whole damn country to the ground.

I can’t wait to see how the press reacts to the next round. The next big, violent outburst of Muslim hate and anger. Will they continue to view them through this prism, as the oppressive, dangerous, and unstable creatures they really are, or will they revert to form and have bleeding, heart-rending compassion and respect for their pets?

What will it be? Tune in tomorrow.

If this was true they would have started rioting in the early 19th century and not stopped about it til the present day. As they haven't I think it's safe to assume the reason goes deeper than freedom of the press - perhaps the fact they were insulted is one reason.

How much anti-Muslim stuff have you seen in the papers or on the TV news in recent years? I haven't seen a whole lot. The media usually sides with them in one way or another, really. And just as an aside, when have they stopped rioting? It's what they do best; if they got paid to riot, there'd be no poverty in the Mideast.

Exactly why I pointed out that it was freedom of the press that allowed the cartoons to be run.
They don't have that in their own countries, so they'd never have occasion to see such things. But in Europe, now....well.
